Post 2008-05-03 - SunaCosu First Official Meeting
On May 3, 2008 will be the inaugural meeting of SunaCosu! First off, we’ll talk about the goals of this club and go around doing introductions. Then, we have at least two presenters chosen not only because of their excellent knowledge in a particular area of costuming. After the presentations, we would like to open up for discussions and close with going out and getting a bite to eat together. We hope that by attending regular meetings, you’ll learn new skills and resources for costume making and meet new friends with a similar interest!

Presentions:

-How to alter a commercial Pattern by Marian
-Wig Styling by Shirley of Orange Octopus Wigs
-Mask Making by Jai *NEW!*

Location: Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282

Time:
1:00 - 3:45 PM [official meeting time]

Note:
Please do not wear costumes to meetings. We will have other gatherings to showcase our costumes, but the meetings are not the place. You may bring in a piece if you wish to get help or ask others questions, but please dress casually.

Here are those semi-detailed directions I promised. Well, at least they are verified from someone who lives in the area and not just MapQuest.
Google Maps Link
The placement on the map is accurate.
-From the US-60, exit on Rural road, then go North
-Travel about 1/2 a mile, and then turn left on Southern
-Travel less than a 1/4 a mile and on your left you'll see 2 blue signs
(They say Pyle Center, Tempe Library, Vihel Arts Center)
-Take your second left
-There will be a big black tombstone-like sign that says Pyle Center - it's the building right there! We have the Prescott Room.
There is also an entrance off Rural Road if you go past the library but it's a bit of a maze, so this is easier, I think.

Wow, I honestly have no clue where that location is, even though I thought I've been through most places in Tempe.

WHAT!?! Spew doesn't know where something is!!? D: THIS IS MADNESS! It's right next to the Tempe library and just north of the US 60.

I will be sending out detailed directions before the meeting for anyone who's map challenged like myself. xD

Ahh, next to the library. At least I know where that is. Why that location, might I ask? Is it because it's nearby and wasn't difficult to reserve a room?

I think it was already reserved but you have to ask Nyu for more details on that location.

It's where the old ACS meetings were held. :) It's down the street from me so I figured why break tradition?

If anyone has a better location suggestion, they can suggest it. ^^ I'm not particularly tied to this place for any reason. It just happens to be nearby to me and FREE (well, because I am a Tempe resident and can book it).

Marians Tips for a Professional Presentation
1. Iron every seam before moving to the next one as you sew.
2. Iron your costume/cosplay before you wear it, every time.
3. Hem & trim stray threads to keep the look clean.
4. Remove your badge for masqurade, fashion show or photos.
5. Use the shower to wash anything that you can, hang it up to dry in the bathroom and use the hair dryer to dry it if it needs it. Hang it up if it’s just a little dirty and spray with fabreeze before wearing the next day.
6. Pick up a can of antibacterial spray and liberaly spray down the inside of costumes as soon as you take it off and hang it so it dry’s completely. This is a tip I picked up from fur suit costumers to use on mascot type costumes.
7. "Wash yourself twice as much as your costumes, you are the cause afterall." (Stillman Blades)

To bratling & DA - I did a little split, new topic on pattern alteration is here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=27

I don't know how many people will be coming, actually. It's hard to say. Even when I said "please RSVP" for the minigolf, no one e-mailed me and only some posted on the boards I advertised on. But we had 15! So more showed up then I expected! I'm hoping the first meeting proves just as or more successful. ^^

Here are those semi-detailed directions I promised. Well, at least they are verified from someone who lives in the area and not just MapQuest.

*ALSO!!* I am looking into a third presenter, since the person I thought we had planned can't make it. :( So stay tuned for that. ^^

Yes, that's fine Mikoto. ^^ I'm sure he'll behave well and hey maybe he'll learn something and want to make his own costumes someday!
